I have a contest for you today. How exciting! But don’t sweat it, it isn’t hard. I’m not demanding you come up with a witty caption for a crazy photo, because if you’re like me, nothing freezes up your brain like being witty on demand.
Instead, this will be like one of those Where’s Waldo books, only better.
Tell me, can you pick out which reindeer Payton made?

This isn't hard. Just take a guess.
I’ll give you a few seconds…

Did you guess the one in the center, the one that is DIFFERENT than all the others in the reindeer barn? Isn’t it amazing how art depicts life?
I had to stand in the hall and take a picture of this, had to. Again, for posterity’s sake.
I imagine myself, about 30 years from now, when whoever it is that takes Oprah’s place has me on his/her show, wanting me to regale them with colorful tales of what Famous Payton was like as a child.
That is when I will whip out this picture, proving he was different from the get go. Then I will pull out all of my liquor receipts too, further proving the point. Let me tell you, it’s not all reindeer games in the barn, raising a brilliant, quirky kid.
Like Rudolph, the other reindeer do laugh and call him names. But whatever. I’m still confident that one day some Important Man will come to Payton and ask him to help in leading the way. Then all the other reindeer will love him and shout with glee and history will be made, blah, blah, blah.

Interesting. And his is much smaller as well. Looks like everyone else went for Rudolph and he went for more realistic.
Awww, it’s a cute reindeer.

As in, the rest of them kind of look like Boris Yeltzin with the fat heads, flushed cheeks and bright red noses.
Payton’s looks normal.

Oh, that kid- he is something (meant in a good way.)
I love his reindeer.
Peace.

Paytons looks like the only one where the deer actually has antlers…all the other ones look like they have spiked hair.
I hope he thought everyone else was being ridiculous…with their red nosed deer.

Isn’t that very interesting and…ironic. That the one little reindeer without the bulbous, red glowing nose is being made fun of now. Good for Payton for dancing to the beat of his own little drummer boy.

Quirky, brilliant and a quiet sense of irony… love it. Just know, there may be chaos but there are no accidents. You were meant to be his mom because you see—and believe.

Love his reindeer. I too would have taken a photo. Wait I did. My son was the only one out of 100 kindergartners last year to draw a self portrait with ALL OF HIS TEETH represented. Now that was scary.

That is great and a true symbol of his individuality.

I love it! Instead of having to be the center of attention (Rudolph) Payton chose to go on his own and make his more accurate.
Love it.
LOVE this post.

It appears he is just a realist. Good for him! We need some better leaders out there.

Its great being diffrent! I am 34 married to a guys whose 56 for 10 years now and I have never been happier in my life, no matter what anyone says just be yourself!!!! Bottom line.
He was more accurate, I like it. Good work Payton!
I wonder if he will be telling tales of his mother that always wrote about him on her blog.

I love his reindeer. He is the only one without the red alcoholic nose.

I recognize that reindeer! Things 1 & 2 did the same thing in elementary school. They were completely pissed off that the teacher was encouraging students to make a reindeer that was NOT an accurate representation of the species.
Great pic, someday we can all say we knew him (or at least about him!) when!

Pure, pure awesome. I would seriously frame this and hang it up and be all, “Shut up. I know it’s July and this appears to be a Christmas-themed piece of art.” Because it’s awesome, and seriously, why conform, right? Right.
That is truly gorgeous, Heather!! Every school needs a reality checker.

Heck yes you believe. It’s a gorgeous, individual, reindeer. Those lemming reindeer don’t stand a chance.

That kid sure beats to the sound of his own drum! Pat yourself on the back those are the kids that DO something in life. I love the fact he made a simply reindeer not the standard BIG red nose.
Individual kids need to be nourished and you get this! BRAVO

I love that he’s different too! Looks to me Payton is the only one in the class with his own mind. Very Awesome!

You go, Payton..

Dude is just ensuring that the REAL reindeer is represented.
Boo would have done one with Teletubbies for ears and the Damn Emos would have been black with a tear…
So sweet – as a former elementary teacher, I LOVED LOVED LOVED the kids who were different and could think outside of the prescription. I have one who does his own thing too so I continuously remind myself of this…

Good on ya, Peyton! Great reindeer! This reminds me of an interpretion of butterflies done by my son (who is quite similar to Peyton)… the kids in his class were asked, “Why would you like to be a butterfly?” All of the other kids gave their rainbows and unicorns answers, but my J-man drew a Rorschach-looking butterfly with an essay about how butterflies are kind of gross because they are BUGS. I enjoy the kids who “think around the corners”! Nice to see he’s in good company.
Oops. I spelled “Payton” wrong. TWICE. Apologies.
beautiful….
You are a fantastic mom.
And, red noses are lame.
